CHAKALAKA BEEF STEW

Ingredients

  • 1kg Brito’s stewing beef, cut into evenly sized pieces.
  • 4 tbsp Golden Cloud cake flour
  • 5 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 200g Brito’s diced bacon
  • 1 tsp Brito’s crushed garlic
  • 375ml prepared Knorrox beef stock, hot
  • 115g Rhodes Quality Tomato Paste Cup
  • 400g can Rhodes Quality Braai Relish
  • 400g can Rhodes Quality Chakalaka Mild & Spicy
  • St Louis salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Cut the beef into evenly sized pieces and toss in the flour, shaking off the excess.
  2. In a large saucepan, lightly brown the meat in 30 ml (2 Tbsp) oil.
  3. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  4. Wipe the pan clean, heat the remaining oil, and add the onion and bacon.
  5. Fry for a few minutes until softened.
  6. Add the garlic and fry for a few more minutes.
  7. Return the meat to the saucepan.
  8. Add the beef stock.
  9. Add the Rhodes Quality Tomato Paste Cup, Rhodes Quality Braai Relish, and the Rhodes Quality Chakalaka Mild & Spicy.
  10. Cover with a lid or tinfoil and simmer for 1 hour or until the meat is tender.
  11. Season to taste, then serve with rice or mashed potatoes.
